Can you get a mental block if you have a blank canvas before you? And the kids are saying, “Draw something! Draw something!” – I usually end up drawing a rose, or sometimes a range, but then I’m stumped. Personally i think exactly the same way with a giant blank driveway and sidewalk chalk, except it’s so much worse! What have you been likely to draw on a huge blank driveway!? (I’d probably still draw my typical flower and rainbow…).
We’ve a large box of sidewalk chalk sitting in the closet right now. But to share with you the truth, we aren’t NEARLY this creative with it. I do believe the problem (besides our creativity) is that we have an outdoor stone driveway and the exact same with this patio in the backyard. So the youngsters take the chalk colours and fill in most the tiny, rectangular bricks in different colours. Sometimes they venture into the play house attached with their swing set and they’ll colour the walls inside too (they’re not supposed to, but wow, they really moved fast that first time before I noticed, and now they know they are able to get away with it. Little tricksters…)

And the other of our baby sitters let the kids colour a some of the bricks on the house last year. That was a poor idea. Don’t colour the bricks on your property unless you intend to get a wash brush and work out how to get all of it off. This has been there for nearly a year now, and despite having pelting rains and plenty of snow storms it’s as bright as the afternoon it happened. Perhaps I could find a polish brush and scrub it off, but who has the full time for that??
