Can you get a mental block when you have an empty canvas facing you? And your children assert, “Draw something! Draw something!” – I usually end up drawing a flower, or sometimes a rainbow, but I’m stumped. I’m exactly the same way with a huge blank driveway and sidewalk chalk, except it’s so much worse! What have you been supposed to draw on a giant blank driveway!? (I’d probably still draw my typical flower and rainbow…).

We have a big box of sidewalk chalk sitting in the closet right now. But to tell you the truth, we aren’t NEARLY this creative with it. I believe the issue (besides our creativity) is that individuals have a patio stone driveway and the same with this patio in the backyard. So the kids take the chalk colours and fill in most the tiny, rectangular bricks in various colours. Sometimes they venture to the play house attached to their swing set and they’ll colour the walls inside too (they’re not likely to, but wow, they really moved fast that first-time before I noticed, and now they know they could break free with it. Little tricksters…)

If there was only 1 item to obtain us through the long summer days, it will be Sidewalk Chalk for the win. Not just could it be super inexpensive, but it’s perfect for all ages and has unlimited play potential. And really, what’s better than the usual “messy” activity with NO clean-up?!

And the other of our baby sitters let the children colour a some of the bricks on our house last year. That was a poor idea. Don’t colour the bricks on your property unless you intend to get a wash brush and work out how to obtain all of it off. This has been there for pretty much per year now, and even with pelting rains and lots of snow storms it’s as bright as the afternoon it happened. Perhaps I possibly could find a wash brush and scrub it off, but who has enough time for that??
