Do you get a mental block when you yourself have an empty canvas facing you? And your children assert, “Draw something! Draw something!” – I usually end up drawing a rose, or sometimes a range, but I’m stumped. Personally i think exactly the same way with a giant blank driveway and sidewalk chalk, except it’s so much worse! What are you supposed to draw on a giant blank driveway!? (I’d probably still draw my typical flower and rainbow…).

We’ve a large box of sidewalk chalk sitting in the closet right now. But to share with you the reality, we aren’t NEARLY this creative with it. I believe the problem (besides our creativity) is that individuals have a patio stone driveway and exactly the same with this patio in the backyard. So the kids take the chalk colours and fill in every the little, rectangular bricks in different colours. Sometimes they venture in to the play house attached to their swing set and they’ll colour the walls in there too (they’re not likely to, but wow, they really moved fast that first-time before I noticed, and now they know they can get away with it. Little tricksters…)

If there clearly was just one item to have us through the long summer days, it would be Sidewalk Chalk for the win. Not just can it be super inexpensive, but it’s perfect for all ages and has unlimited play potential. And really, what’s better when compared to a “messy” activity with NO clean-up?!

And then one of our baby sitters let the kids colour a several bricks on the house last year. That has been a bad idea. Don’t colour the bricks on your property unless you want to get a scrub brush and figure out how to get all of it off. This has been there for almost annually now, and despite pelting rains and a lot of snow storms it’s as bright as the day it happened. I guess I possibly could find a polish brush and scrub it off, but who has the time for that??
