Do you get a mental block when you yourself have an empty canvas facing you? And your kids assert, “Draw something! Draw something!” – I usually end up drawing a flower, or sometimes a rainbow, but then I’m stumped. I’m the same way with a giant blank driveway and sidewalk chalk, except it’s so much worse! What are you supposed to draw on a giant blank driveway!? (I’d probably still draw my typical flower and rainbow…).

We’ve a huge box of sidewalk chalk sitting in the closet right now. But to tell you the facts, we aren’t NEARLY this creative with it. I think the issue (besides our creativity) is that we have an outdoor stone driveway and exactly the same with our patio in the backyard. So the kids take the chalk colours and fill in all the small, rectangular bricks in various colours. Sometimes they venture to the play house attached to their swing set and they’ll colour the walls inside too (they’re not likely to, but wow, they really moved fast that very first time before I noticed, and now they know they can get away with it. Little tricksters…)

If there is only one item to have us through the long summer days, it could be Sidewalk Chalk for the win. Not only is it super inexpensive, but it’s perfect for all ages and has unlimited play potential. And really, what’s better than a “messy” activity with NO clean-up?!

So grab your box of chalk and head outside with your children all day of nonstop fun!

And then one of our baby sitters let the youngsters colour a several bricks on our home last year. That has been a bad idea. Don’t colour the bricks on your house unless you intend to get a polish brush and figure out how to have everything off. This has been there for pretty much annually now, and despite pelting rains and a lot of snow storms it’s as bright as the day it happened. I suppose I could find a polish brush and scrub it off, but who has enough time for that??

This list is fantastic if you need a little bit of inspiration to take your sidewalk chalk from the boring game of X’s and O’s or hopscotch to a fun “Wow, that’s so amazing!” adventure!
