Do you get a mental block if you have a blank canvas in front of you? And the kids are saying, “Draw something! Draw something!” – I usually end up drawing a rose, or sometimes a range, but then I’m stumped. I’m the exact same way with a huge blank driveway and sidewalk chalk, except it’s so much worse! What have you been designed to draw on a huge blank driveway!? (I’d probably still draw my typical flower and rainbow…).
We’ve a big box of sidewalk chalk sitting in the closet right now. But to share with you the truth, we aren’t NEARLY this creative with it. I do believe the situation (besides our creativity) is that people have a patio stone driveway and the same with this patio in the backyard. So the children take the chalk colours and fill in most the tiny, rectangular bricks in numerous colours. Sometimes they venture in to the play house attached with their swing set and they’ll colour the walls inside too (they’re not supposed to, but wow, they really moved fast that first time before I noticed, and now they know they can get away with it. Little tricksters…)
If there was only one item to obtain us through the long summer days, it would be Sidewalk Chalk for the win. Not just could it be super inexpensive, but it’s ideal for all ages and has unlimited play potential. And really, what’s better than the usual “messy” activity with NO clean-up?!

And the other of our baby sitters let the youngsters colour a few of the bricks on our home last year. That has been a poor idea. Don’t colour the bricks on your property unless you wish to get a polish brush and work out how to have all of it off. This has been there for pretty much annually now, and even with pelting rains and a lot of snow storms it’s as bright as the day it happened. I suppose I possibly could find a scrub brush and scrub it off, but who has the full time for that??
This list is fantastic if you need a little inspiration to take your sidewalk chalk from the boring game of X’s and O’s or hopscotch to a fun “Wow, that’s so amazing!” adventure!
