Can you get a mental block when you yourself have an empty canvas in front of you? And your children say, “Draw something! Draw something!” – I usually end up drawing a flower, or sometimes a range, however I’m stumped. Personally i think exactly the same way with a huge blank driveway and sidewalk chalk, except it’s so much worse! What have you been supposed to draw on a huge blank driveway!? (I’d probably still draw my typical flower and rainbow…).
We have a large box of sidewalk chalk sitting in the closet right now. But to tell you the facts, we aren’t NEARLY this creative with it. I think the situation (besides our creativity) is that people have an outdoor patio stone driveway and the exact same with our patio in the backyard. So the children take the chalk colours and fill in most the little, rectangular bricks in numerous colours. Sometimes they venture to the play house attached for their swing set and they’ll colour the walls inside too (they’re not supposed to, but wow, they really moved fast that first-time before I noticed, and now they know they are able to break free with it. Little tricksters…)
If there was only one item to obtain us through the long summer days, it will be Sidewalk Chalk for the win. Not just could it be super inexpensive, but it’s perfect for all ages and has unlimited play potential. And really, what’s better than the usual “messy” activity with NO clean-up?!
We’ve pulled together well known sidewalk chalk ideas into an epic set of learning activities, games, imagination spark-ers, and get-them-active ideas that’ll keep your chalk repertoire fresh all summer long. Plus some totally cool interactive chalk art that you don’t desire to miss!
So grab your box of chalk and head outside with your kids all day of nonstop fun!
And the other of our baby sitters let the children colour a some of the bricks on our house last year. That has been a poor idea. Don’t colour the bricks on your home unless you want to get a polish brush and figure out how to have everything off. It’s been there for pretty much annually now, and despite pelting rains and lots of snow storms it’s as bright as your day it happened. I guess I really could find a wash brush and scrub it off, but who has enough time for that??
This list is fantastic if you’ll need a little bit of inspiration to take your sidewalk chalk from the boring game of X’s and O’s or hopscotch to a fun “Wow, that’s so amazing!” adventure! You will find lots of great ideas! And better still, you are able to take a photograph from a second floor window and keep carefully the memory as a keepsake! I love these ideas!
