Would you get a mental block when you have a clear canvas before you? And your children assert, “Draw something! Draw something!” – I usually end up drawing a flower, or sometimes a rainbow, however I’m stumped. I’m exactly the same way with a huge blank driveway and sidewalk chalk, except it’s so much worse! What are you currently likely to draw on a giant blank driveway!? (I’d probably still draw my typical flower and rainbow…).
We have a large box of sidewalk chalk sitting in the closet right now. But to tell you the facts, we aren’t NEARLY this creative with it. I believe the problem (besides our creativity) is that people have a patio stone driveway and the same with our patio in the backyard. So the youngsters take the chalk colours and fill in most the tiny, rectangular bricks in numerous colours. Sometimes they venture in to the play house attached with their swing set and they’ll colour the walls within too (they’re not likely to, but wow, they really moved fast that first-time before I noticed, and now they know they are able to get away with it. Little tricksters…)
If there was only one item to obtain us through the long summer days, it could be Sidewalk Chalk for the win. Not merely could it be super inexpensive, but it’s great for all ages and has unlimited play potential. And really, what’s better than the usual “messy” activity with NO clean-up?!

So grab your box of chalk and head outside with your children all day of nonstop fun!
And then one of our baby sitters let the children colour a few of the bricks on our house last year. Which was a bad idea. Don’t colour the bricks on your house unless you intend to get a polish brush and work out how to obtain all of it off. This has been there for almost a year now, and despite pelting rains and a lot of snow storms it’s as bright as the day it happened. Perhaps I could find a wash brush and scrub it off, but who has the full time for that??
This list is fantastic if you will need a bit of inspiration to take your sidewalk chalk from the boring game of X’s and O’s or hopscotch to a fun “Wow, that’s so amazing!” adventure! You will find lots of great ideas! And better yet, you can have a photograph from an additional floor window and keep the memory as a keepsake! I enjoy these ideas!
