Can you get a mental block if you have a clear canvas in front of you? And the kids say, “Draw something! Draw something!” – I usually end up drawing a flower, or sometimes a range, but then I’m stumped. Personally i think exactly the same way with a giant blank driveway and sidewalk chalk, except it’s so much worse! What are you supposed to draw on a giant blank driveway!? (I’d probably still draw my typical flower and rainbow…).

We’ve a huge box of sidewalk chalk sitting in the closet right now. But to tell you the reality, we aren’t NEARLY this creative with it. I believe the situation (besides our creativity) is that we have an outdoor stone driveway and the same with your patio in the backyard. So the youngsters take the chalk colours and fill in all the tiny, rectangular bricks in different colours. Sometimes they venture into the play house attached for their swing set and they’ll colour the walls within too (they’re not designed to, but wow, they really moved fast that first time before I noticed, and now they know they could escape with it. Little tricksters…)

If there is only one item to obtain us through the long summer days, it would be Sidewalk Chalk for the win. Not just can it be super inexpensive, but it’s ideal for all ages and has unlimited play potential. And really, what’s better when compared to a “messy” activity with NO clean-up?!

So grab your box of chalk and head outside with your kids all night of nonstop fun!

And the other of our baby sitters let the youngsters colour a some of the bricks on the house last year. That was a negative idea. Don’t colour the bricks on your property unless you want to get a polish brush and figure out how to get it all off. It’s been there for pretty much a year now, and despite having pelting rains and lots of snow storms it’s as bright as the afternoon it happened. I suppose I really could find a wash brush and scrub it off, but who has the time for that??

This list is fantastic if you’ll need a little inspiration to take your sidewalk chalk from a boring game of X’s and O’s or hopscotch to a fun “Wow, that’s so amazing!” adventure!
