Can you get a mental block when you have a clear canvas facing you? And the kids assert, “Draw something! Draw something!” – I usually wind up drawing a rose, or sometimes a rainbow, but then I’m stumped. I’m the same way with a huge blank driveway and sidewalk chalk, except it’s so much worse! What have you been supposed to draw on a huge blank driveway!? (I’d probably still draw my typical flower and rainbow…).

We’ve a big box of sidewalk chalk sitting in the closet right now. But to tell you the reality, we aren’t NEARLY this creative with it. I think the issue (besides our creativity) is that we have an outdoor stone driveway and exactly the same with this patio in the backyard. So the youngsters take the chalk colours and fill in all the tiny, rectangular bricks in numerous colours. Sometimes they venture to the play house attached with their swing set and they’ll colour the walls within too (they’re not supposed to, but wow, they really moved fast that first-time before I noticed, and now they know they are able to break free with it. Little tricksters…)

If there was only 1 item to obtain us through the long summer days, it could be Sidewalk Chalk for the win. Not only is it super inexpensive, but it’s perfect for all ages and has unlimited play potential. And really, what’s better than the usual “messy” activity with NO clean-up?!

And the other of our baby sitters let the youngsters colour a some of the bricks on our house last year. That was a negative idea. Don’t colour the bricks on your home unless you wish to get a polish brush and figure out how to obtain all of it off. It’s been there for pretty much annually now, and despite pelting rains and lots of snow storms it’s as bright as the afternoon it happened. I suppose I really could find a scrub brush and scrub it off, but who has enough time for that??
