Would you get a mental block if you have an empty canvas in front of you? And the kids assert, “Draw something! Draw something!” – I usually wind up drawing a flower, or sometimes a rainbow, but then I’m stumped. I feel the exact same way with a giant blank driveway and sidewalk chalk, except it’s so much worse! What are you designed to draw on a giant blank driveway!? (I’d probably still draw my typical flower and rainbow…).

We’ve a big box of sidewalk chalk sitting in the closet right now. But to tell you the facts, we aren’t NEARLY this creative with it. I think the issue (besides our creativity) is that we have a patio stone driveway and exactly the same with your patio in the backyard. So the youngsters take the chalk colours and fill in all the tiny, rectangular bricks in different colours. Sometimes they venture in to the play house attached for their swing set and they’ll colour the walls inside too (they’re not designed to, but wow, they really moved fast that very first time before I noticed, and now they know they could escape with it. Little tricksters…)

If there is just one item to have us through the long summer days, it would be Sidewalk Chalk for the win. Not just is it super inexpensive, but it’s great for all ages and has unlimited play potential. And really, what’s better when compared to a “messy” activity with NO clean-up?!

And the other of our baby sitters let the kids colour a few of the bricks on our house last year. That has been a bad idea. Don’t colour the bricks on your home unless you wish to get a scrub brush and figure out how to obtain everything off. It’s been there for pretty much a year now, and despite pelting rains and lots of snow storms it’s as bright as your day it happened. Perhaps I could find a wash brush and scrub it off, but who has the full time for that??
