Can you get a mental block if you have a clear canvas facing you? And the kids say, “Draw something! Draw something!” – I usually find yourself drawing a rose, or sometimes a range, but then I’m stumped. I feel exactly the same way with a giant blank driveway and sidewalk chalk, except it’s so much worse! What are you currently supposed to draw on a giant blank driveway!? (I’d probably still draw my typical flower and rainbow…).

We’ve a large box of sidewalk chalk sitting in the closet right now. But to inform you the truth, we aren’t NEARLY this creative with it. I think the issue (besides our creativity) is that people have an outdoor patio stone driveway and the exact same with your patio in the backyard. So the children take the chalk colours and fill in most the little, rectangular bricks in different colours. Sometimes they venture in to the play house attached for their swing set and they’ll colour the walls in there too (they’re not likely to, but wow, they really moved fast that first-time before I noticed, and now they know they could get away with it. Little tricksters…)

If there clearly was only 1 item to get us through the long summer days, it could be Sidewalk Chalk for the win. Not only is it super inexpensive, but it’s great for all ages and has unlimited play potential. And really, what’s better than a “messy” activity with NO clean-up?!

We’ve pulled together our favorite sidewalk chalk ideas into an epic list of learning activities, games, imagination spark-ers, and get-them-active ideas that will keep your chalk repertoire fresh all summer long. Plus some totally cool interactive chalk art you never want to miss!

So grab your box of chalk and head outside with the kids for hours of nonstop fun!

And then one of our baby sitters let the kids colour a some of the bricks on the house last year. That was a poor idea. Don’t colour the bricks on your property unless you wish to get a polish brush and work out how to have all of it off. It’s been there for nearly per year now, and even with pelting rains and a lot of snow storms it’s as bright as the day it happened. I guess I really could find a wash brush and scrub it off, but who has the full time for that??

This list is fantastic if you need a bit of inspiration to take your sidewalk chalk from a boring game of X’s and O’s or hopscotch to a fun “Wow, that’s so amazing!” adventure! You will find lots of great ideas! And better yet, you are able to take a photograph from a second floor window and keep carefully the memory as a keepsake! I really like these ideas!

From princess crowns to under sea adventures, there are tons of fun ideas to help you make a whole new world in your driveway!
