Can you get a mental block when you yourself have a clear canvas in front of you? And the kids assert, “Draw something! Draw something!” – I usually end up drawing a flower, or sometimes a range, however I’m stumped. I’m exactly the same way with a huge blank driveway and sidewalk chalk, except it’s so much worse! What have you been likely to draw on a giant blank driveway!? (I’d probably still draw my typical flower and rainbow…).

We have a big box of sidewalk chalk sitting in the closet right now. But to share with you the truth, we aren’t NEARLY this creative with it. I think the problem (besides our creativity) is that people have an outdoor patio stone driveway and the exact same with your patio in the backyard. So the youngsters take the chalk colours and fill in every the small, rectangular bricks in different colours. Sometimes they venture to the play house attached for their swing set and they’ll colour the walls inside too (they’re not likely to, but wow, they really moved fast that very first time before I noticed, and now they know they could get away with it. Little tricksters…)

If there clearly was just one item to get us through the long summer days, it would be Sidewalk Chalk for the win. Not only is it super inexpensive, but it’s perfect for all ages and has unlimited play potential. And really, what’s better than a “messy” activity with NO clean-up?!

And then one of our baby sitters let the children colour a several bricks on the house last year. That was a bad idea. Don’t colour the bricks on your home unless you want to get a scrub brush and figure out how to obtain it all off. It’s been there for nearly a year now, and despite pelting rains and plenty of snow storms it’s as bright as the day it happened. I suppose I really could find a scrub brush and scrub it off, but who has the full time for that??
