Do you get a mental block when you have a blank canvas before you? And your children say, “Draw something! Draw something!” – I usually find yourself drawing a rose, or sometimes a rainbow, but then I’m stumped. I feel the exact same way with a giant blank driveway and sidewalk chalk, except it’s so much worse! What are you likely to draw on a huge blank driveway!? (I’d probably still draw my typical flower and rainbow…).

We have a large box of sidewalk chalk sitting in the closet right now. But to inform you the reality, we aren’t NEARLY this creative with it. I do believe the issue (besides our creativity) is that we have a patio stone driveway and the exact same with your patio in the backyard. So the youngsters take the chalk colours and fill in every the small, rectangular bricks in numerous colours. Sometimes they venture in to the play house attached with their swing set and they’ll colour the walls inside too (they’re not likely to, but wow, they really moved fast that very first time before I noticed, and now they know they can get away with it. Little tricksters…)

If there is only one item to get us through the long summer days, it would be Sidewalk Chalk for the win. Not merely is it super inexpensive, but it’s great for all ages and has unlimited play potential. And really, what’s better than the usual “messy” activity with NO clean-up?!

And then one of our baby sitters let the youngsters colour a some of the bricks on our home last year. That was a negative idea. Don’t colour the bricks on your property unless you intend to get a wash brush and figure out how to have all of it off. This has been there for nearly a year now, and despite pelting rains and lots of snow storms it’s as bright as the afternoon it happened. I suppose I really could find a polish brush and scrub it off, but who has enough time for that??
