Can you get a mental block when you yourself have a blank canvas in front of you? And your kids assert, “Draw something! Draw something!” – I usually find yourself drawing a rose, or sometimes a rainbow, but I’m stumped. I feel the same way with a giant blank driveway and sidewalk chalk, except it’s so much worse! What have you been designed to draw on a giant blank driveway!? (I’d probably still draw my typical flower and rainbow…).
We have a large box of sidewalk chalk sitting in the closet right now. But to share with you the truth, we aren’t NEARLY this creative with it. I do believe the issue (besides our creativity) is that we have an outdoor patio stone driveway and the same with our patio in the backyard. So the youngsters take the chalk colours and fill in most the tiny, rectangular bricks in numerous colours. Sometimes they venture to the play house attached to their swing set and they’ll colour the walls within too (they’re not designed to, but wow, they really moved fast that first time before I noticed, and now they know they could get away with it. Little tricksters…)
If there was just one item to get us through the long summer days, it would be Sidewalk Chalk for the win. Not merely could it be super inexpensive, but it’s ideal for all ages and has unlimited play potential. And really, what’s better than the usual “messy” activity with NO clean-up?!
We’ve pulled together our favorite sidewalk chalk ideas into an epic list of learning activities, games, imagination spark-ers, and get-them-active ideas that will keep your chalk repertoire fresh all summer long. Plus some totally cool interactive chalk art you do not want to miss!
So grab your box of chalk and head outside with the kids for hours of nonstop fun!
And then one of our baby sitters let the youngsters colour a some of the bricks on our house last year. That was a negative idea. Don’t colour the bricks on your home unless you wish to get a scrub brush and figure out how to have everything off. This has been there for almost annually now, and despite pelting rains and a lot of snow storms it’s as bright as the afternoon it happened. I guess I really could find a wash brush and scrub it off, but who has enough time for that??
This list is fantastic if you will need a little bit of inspiration to take your sidewalk chalk from a boring game of X’s and O’s or hopscotch to a fun “Wow, that’s so amazing!” adventure! You will find loads of great ideas! And better still, you can have a photograph from a second floor window and keep carefully the memory as a keepsake! I really like these ideas!
