Do you get a mental block when you have a bare canvas in front of you? And your children are saying, “Draw something! Draw something!” – I usually end up drawing a rose, or sometimes a rainbow, however I’m stumped. Personally i think exactly the same way with a giant blank driveway and sidewalk chalk, except it’s so much worse! What are you currently designed to draw on a huge blank driveway!? (I’d probably still draw my typical flower and rainbow…).
We’ve a big box of sidewalk chalk sitting in the closet right now. But to tell you the truth, we aren’t NEARLY this creative with it. I think the situation (besides our creativity) is that people have an outdoor patio stone driveway and the exact same with this patio in the backyard. So the children take the chalk colours and fill in every the tiny, rectangular bricks in different colours. Sometimes they venture into the play house attached for their swing set and they’ll colour the walls inside too (they’re not likely to, but wow, they really moved fast that first time before I noticed, and now they know they could break free with it. Little tricksters…)
If there is only 1 item to get us through the long summer days, it would be Sidewalk Chalk for the win. Not only can it be super inexpensive, but it’s perfect for all ages and has unlimited play potential. And really, what’s better when compared to a “messy” activity with NO clean-up?!
We’ve pulled together the most popular sidewalk chalk ideas into an epic set of learning activities, games, imagination spark-ers, and get-them-active ideas that will keep your chalk repertoire fresh all summer long. Plus some totally cool interactive chalk art you never want to miss!
So grab your box of chalk and head outside with your kids all night of nonstop fun!
And then one of our baby sitters let the children colour a several bricks on our house last year. Which was a negative idea. Don’t colour the bricks on your property unless you want to get a wash brush and figure out how to get everything off. It’s been there for nearly annually now, and even with pelting rains and a lot of snow storms it’s as bright as the afternoon it happened. I guess I really could find a wash brush and scrub it off, but who has the time for that??
This list is fantastic if you need a bit of inspiration to take your sidewalk chalk from the boring game of X’s and O’s or hopscotch to a fun “Wow, that’s so amazing!” adventure!
