Do you get a mental block if you have a bare canvas before you? And your kids say, “Draw something! Draw something!” – I usually find yourself drawing a rose, or sometimes a rainbow, however I’m stumped. I feel exactly the same way with a giant blank driveway and sidewalk chalk, except it’s so much worse! What are you currently supposed to draw on a huge blank driveway!? (I’d probably still draw my typical flower and rainbow…).

We’ve a big box of sidewalk chalk sitting in the closet right now. But to inform you the truth, we aren’t NEARLY this creative with it. I think the problem (besides our creativity) is that people have an outdoor patio stone driveway and the same with our patio in the backyard. So the children take the chalk colours and fill in most the small, rectangular bricks in numerous colours. Sometimes they venture into the play house attached to their swing set and they’ll colour the walls inside too (they’re not likely to, but wow, they really moved fast that first time before I noticed, and now they know they are able to get away with it. Little tricksters…)

If there is just one item to get us through the long summer days, it could be Sidewalk Chalk for the win. Not only is it super inexpensive, but it’s ideal for all ages and has unlimited play potential. And really, what’s better than a “messy” activity with NO clean-up?!

So grab your box of chalk and head outside with the kids all night of nonstop fun!

And then one of our baby sitters let the kids colour a some of the bricks on the house last year. That has been a bad idea. Don’t colour the bricks on your property unless you want to get a polish brush and work out how to get all of it off. This has been there for pretty much annually now, and despite having pelting rains and plenty of snow storms it’s as bright as the afternoon it happened. Perhaps I really could find a polish brush and scrub it off, but who has the time for that??

This list is fantastic if you will need a little bit of inspiration to take your sidewalk chalk from the boring game of X’s and O’s or hopscotch to a fun “Wow, that’s so amazing!” adventure! You will find lots of great ideas! And even better, you are able to have a photograph from an additional floor window and keep the memory as a keepsake! I love these ideas!
