Can you get a mental block if you have an empty canvas in front of you? And your children say, “Draw something! Draw something!” – I usually end up drawing a flower, or sometimes a rainbow, however I’m stumped. I’m the exact same way with a huge blank driveway and sidewalk chalk, except it’s so much worse! What are you currently likely to draw on a giant blank driveway!? (I’d probably still draw my typical flower and rainbow…).

We have a big box of sidewalk chalk sitting in the closet right now. But to tell you the facts, we aren’t NEARLY this creative with it. I think the problem (besides our creativity) is that we have an outdoor patio stone driveway and exactly the same with this patio in the backyard. So the children take the chalk colours and fill in most the tiny, rectangular bricks in various colours. Sometimes they venture in to the play house attached for their swing set and they’ll colour the walls in there too (they’re not designed to, but wow, they really moved fast that first time before I noticed, and now they know they can escape with it. Little tricksters…)

And the other of our baby sitters let the kids colour a several bricks on our home last year. That has been a poor idea. Don’t colour the bricks on your property unless you intend to get a scrub brush and work out how to get all of it off. It’s been there for pretty much annually now, and despite pelting rains and lots of snow storms it’s as bright as the afternoon it happened. I guess I possibly could find a polish brush and scrub it off, but who has enough time for that??
