Can you get a mental block if you have a bare canvas before you? And the kids say, “Draw something! Draw something!” – I usually wind up drawing a flower, or sometimes a rainbow, however I’m stumped. I feel the exact same way with a giant blank driveway and sidewalk chalk, except it’s so much worse! What are you currently designed to draw on a giant blank driveway!? (I’d probably still draw my typical flower and rainbow…).
We have a big box of sidewalk chalk sitting in the closet right now. But to tell you the reality, we aren’t NEARLY this creative with it. I think the issue (besides our creativity) is that people have an outdoor patio stone driveway and the same with this patio in the backyard. So the kids take the chalk colours and fill in every the tiny, rectangular bricks in various colours. Sometimes they venture to the play house attached to their swing set and they’ll colour the walls in there too (they’re not supposed to, but wow, they really moved fast that very first time before I noticed, and now they know they are able to get away with it. Little tricksters…)
If there is only 1 item to get us through the long summer days, it could be Sidewalk Chalk for the win. Not just is it super inexpensive, but it’s ideal for all ages and has unlimited play potential. And really, what’s better than the usual “messy” activity with NO clean-up?!

And then one of our baby sitters let the children colour a several bricks on our house last year. That was a poor idea. Don’t colour the bricks on your property unless you want to get a scrub brush and figure out how to obtain all of it off. This has been there for pretty much annually now, and despite pelting rains and plenty of snow storms it’s as bright as your day it happened. I guess I possibly could find a scrub brush and scrub it off, but who has enough time for that??
