Can you get a mental block when you have a bare canvas facing you? And your kids assert, “Draw something! Draw something!” – I usually find yourself drawing a flower, or sometimes a range, but I’m stumped. (I’d probably still draw my typical flower and rainbow…).
We have a large box of sidewalk chalk sitting in the closet right now. But to tell you the facts, we aren’t NEARLY this creative with it. I do believe the issue (besides our creativity) is that people have an outdoor stone driveway and the exact same with this patio in the backyard. So the kids take the chalk colours and fill in all the little, rectangular bricks in various colours. Sometimes they venture in to the play house attached with their swing set and they’ll colour the walls in there too (they’re not designed to, but wow, they really moved fast that very first time before I noticed, and now they know they could break free with it. Little tricksters…)

And the other of our baby sitters let the kids colour a several bricks on our house last year. That was a poor idea. Don’t colour the bricks on your property unless you intend to get a wash brush and work out how to get it all off. It’s been there for nearly a year now, and despite having pelting rains and plenty of snow storms it’s as bright as the day it happened. Perhaps I really could find a polish brush and scrub it off, but who has the time for that??
