Would you get a mental block when you have a bare canvas facing you? And your children assert, “Draw something! Draw something!” – I usually wind up drawing a rose, or sometimes a rainbow, but then I’m stumped. I’m the exact same way with a giant blank driveway and sidewalk chalk, except it’s so much worse! What are you currently supposed to draw on a giant blank driveway!? (I’d probably still draw my typical flower and rainbow…).
We have a big box of sidewalk chalk sitting in the closet right now. But to inform you the reality, we aren’t NEARLY this creative with it. I think the situation (besides our creativity) is that people have an outdoor patio stone driveway and the exact same with your patio in the backyard. So the children take the chalk colours and fill in all the little, rectangular bricks in different colours. Sometimes they venture to the play house attached to their swing set and they’ll colour the walls inside too (they’re not likely to, but wow, they really moved fast that very first time before I noticed, and now they know they could break free with it. Little tricksters…)
If there was just one item to have us through the long summer days, it could be Sidewalk Chalk for the win. Not only can it be super inexpensive, but it’s great for all ages and has unlimited play potential. And really, what’s better when compared to a “messy” activity with NO clean-up?!
We’ve pulled together our favorite sidewalk chalk ideas into an epic listing of learning activities, games, imagination spark-ers, and get-them-active ideas that may keep your chalk repertoire fresh all summer long. Plus some totally cool interactive chalk art you never want to miss!
So grab your box of chalk and head outside with your kids all night of nonstop fun!
And then one of our baby sitters let the kids colour a few of the bricks on the house last year. That has been a bad idea. Don’t colour the bricks on your house unless you intend to get a wash brush and figure out how to get everything off. This has been there for pretty much per year now, and despite pelting rains and plenty of snow storms it’s as bright as the afternoon it happened. I suppose I possibly could find a polish brush and scrub it off, but who has the full time for that??
This list is fantastic if you need a little bit of inspiration to take your sidewalk chalk from a boring game of X’s and O’s or hopscotch to a fun “Wow, that’s so amazing!” adventure! You will find lots of great ideas! And better still, you are able to take a photograph from another floor window and keep consitently the memory as a keepsake! I really like these ideas!
From princess crowns to under sea adventures, you will find lots of fun ideas to help you make a whole new world in your driveway!
